That's a good idea, mijj. Ordinarily, I use a desktop folder for each day's "leftovers" then (usually the following day) put that folder into a master internal folder - for, erm, posterity or something.

:D

i used the desktop as a noteplace for all things of interest to be chased up later in more detail.

There's links and txt files and pdfs and the occasional vid and sound file and folders of links and pdfs and text etc.

.. all kept because one day i'll go through the stuff in more detail.

well .. no more. I have a folder on the desktop for that! .. At last! I am now organised. .. i may rename it the "memory hole".

My new desktop!

(Since I'm a "Berliner" I should occasionally act accordingly.)

This artwork was made by Erich Kettelhut who - according to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) - worked on Fritz Lang's feature film Metropolis (Babelsberg: Universum Film Aktiengesellschaft, 1927) in the following capacities: art director, set designer, trick photography (special effects), painting effects (visual effects) and technical consultant.

Here are a few brief definitions from IMDb's Movie Terminology Glossary:

Art Director
The person who oversees the artists and craftspeople who build the sets. See also production designer, set designer, set director, leadman, and swing gang.

Set Designer
The person responsible for translating a production designer's vision of the movie's environment into a set which can be used for filming. The set designer reports to the art director.

Special Effects
AKA: SFX, Special Effects Assistant, Special Effects Technician
An artificial effect used to create an illusion in a movie. Refers to effects produced on the set, as opposed to those created in post-production. Most movie illusions are created in post production. These are called visual effects.

Visual Effects
Alterations to a film's images during post-production. Contrast with special effects (except in UK television, where visual effects and special effects are sometimes the same).

Those literate in the German language can click on the following label to hear Metropolis director Fritz Lang talk about the film, in a recording made in conjunction with the film's release in 1927:

Several musical themes from the film can be auditioned by clicking on the following label, a companion recording to the one above:

Anime aficionados may recall a fictional Fritz Lang (director of Metropolis in real life) appeared in Mizushima Seiji's feature film Gekijōban Hagane no Renkinjutsushi Shanbara o Yuku Mono a.k.a. "Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa" (Kyoto: Shōchiku Kabushiki Gaisha, 2005).

The actual wallpaper is here. Poor Asuka! First - as Asuka Langley Soryu and then later Captain Asuka Langley Shikinami - she's reportedly a product of artificial insemination, spends her early childhood living with an insane and non-nurturing mother, witnesses said mother hanged, undergoes mental torture by one of those Angel things, is run through with a replica of the Lance of Longinus (scenario pictured above) then is dismembered and crushed by Mass Produced Evas and then washes ashore only to be strangled by that whinger Shinji Ikari, or else one of those Angel things takes over the Eva unit she was static-testing and subjects her to mental torture prior to another Eva unit crushing her to the point of critical injury. But she's alive! Yay!

The actual wallpaper is here. I'm not quite done with this one, but all that remains to do is a wee bit of cleanup here and there. This wallpaper is a departure from my usual minimalist style, such as it is. It shows, mainly, the status of peace in the world; so, just to be a smart-ass about it, I decided to use "Don't worry! Be happy!" colors throughout. In the upper left is the National Airlines logo. That's my all-time favorite airline, but it vanished into the maw of corporate monopoly during the 1970s. Alas! Here it's representing nature on Terra in addition to the universe in general.

You'll probably recognize, in the upper right, cutaways of the only two nuclear combat bombs ever detonated. In the middle is the latest state-of-peace map, which isn't very encouraging; and below that is a nice colorful nuclear-disarmament/peace symbol. Whee! Yoko Ritona looks on from the lower-left quadrant, bemused by our species' inability to live in harmony on this little planet. "Why did I and my comrades-in-arms form a Resistance to battle and eventually defeat a genocidal invading armed force," she rightly wonders, "when now we're right back to 'Meet the new boss: same as the old boss'?"
